The Story of Two Sisters
In the workshops of Andrew Barclay in Scotland, two remarkable locomotives were born: Annie in 1904 and her younger sister Victory in 1945. These magnificent machines, which once powered Britain’s industrial revolution, now face their greatest challenge – the risk of being lost forever unless we act now.
Why This Matters
These aren’t just machines – they’re living pieces of our industrial heritage. Annie and Victory represent over a century of British engineering excellence and railway history. When these locomotives run, they don’t just move along tracks – they transport us back in time, creating unforgettable memories for families, train enthusiasts, and our local community.
The Challenge
Both locomotives require extensive restoration to meet modern safety standards:
- Annie (built 1904) needs a complete overhaul, including:
- New boiler
- New tubes
- New fire box
- Victory (built 1945) requires:
- New tubes
- New fire box
The Investment
We’re seeking to raise £100,000 towards the total restoration costs. Your contribution will help fund:
- Annie’s new boiler, tubes and firebox
- Victory’s new tubes and firebox
- Certification, safety inspections and specialist engineering
- Long-term steam running days and skills development.
Every pound donated goes directly to restoration costs – all labour is provided by our dedicated volunteer team.
