We received a report from Bittern DX Group who where part of the Railways on Air weekend on 26th/27th September
They set up three radio stations in the signal box, a small station running VHF on 145Mhz for local contacts using a vertical antenna attached to the safety rail, a Raspberry Pi (this is a tiny constructed computer about the size of a matchbox) which was receiving and sending data signals through a Yaesu FT897 HF Transceiver and vertical HF Antenna. Finally the main station which consisted of a Yaesu FT1000MP HF Transceiver and horizontal Windom wire antenna.
Although radio conditions were very poor we succeeded in contacting over 150 other amateurs of which 22 were special event railway stations.
